New
Sports Court: Construction has begun: Our new outdoor
sport court will be located on the fenced in sand-pit near the Pre-K
parking lot. The Sports Court will feature an end-to-end Roller-Hockey court. Crossways from
the Hockey court, there will be lines painted and goals for two Basketball courts. The height
of the goals will be adjustable for smaller children and regulation size.
There will also be crossways two Volleyball
courts of regulation size superimposed over the Basketball courts.
Inserts will be installed for Volleyball poles and nets. A small concrete
structure will be built nearby to store athletic equipment for the Sports
Court. The Sports Court is scheduled for completion around June 5th. Our children
will have a wonderful facility waiting for them when school starts in
August. The Sports Court is being funded by a dear friend of the school.
The Sports Court will be made available for recesses, physical education
classes and general recreation for all grades.
Congratulations to the Pre-K (4)
Marriage of the Letters Q and U. The ceremony took
place at 9:00 a.m. this morning. Well done to the students, supportive
parents, and Pre-K faculty. The letters were successfully united and they
sped off the campus in a Corvette headed for a lifetime of bliss. I
believe the photographers presents outnumbered the size of the entire White
House Press Corps.
Papal
Blessing and portrait of Pope Benedict XVI.
Please note in our Main Office the newly acquired portrait of the Holy
Father with the seal of the Vatican and a Papal Blessing of our school. The
portrait and blessing was arranged through the efforts of Father Dan Hennessy, LC (THS Class of
1993) and arrived here in the United States and safely to The Highlands
School through the diligence of Coach
John Holbrook. We appreciate this wonderful and blessed addition to our
school.

Click and Pledge for the Annual Fund:
The Annual Fund Campaign is vital to the
success of operating The Highlands School. All of the funds raised go
directly to support the annual operating budget. Specifically,
contributions fund financial aid and scholarships, academic programs,
faculty enrichment and athletics. As tuition does not cover the full
cost of educating our students, we must rely on the support of our families
and friends to close the gap.
Our expectation is that each family
contributes at least $1,000 and we achieve 100% participation. Our community
is the foundation of our existence. Be part of it and participate.
Contribute today and together we will attain
our goal of $275,000!

News from the Lower, Middle and High
Schools

Library News: As the school year
draws to an end, many thanks are due to those who have contributed to the
library this year. We are grateful to those who generously donated books,
as well as to those who gave of their time and talents by volunteering to
help with various projects. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed and we,
the faculty and students of the Highlands School, sincerely appreciate
their help in enhancing and improving our library.
All
parents and students may come to see and enjoy the newly donated books,
located toward the front entrance of the library, on any weekday from 8:00
a.m. to 4:00 a.m. The library will be open until May 9. Afterwards, the
library will be closed to students so that we can start assessing how many
books the library is missing, so that our collection will be complete by
the end of the school year. I know that some of you received white slips a
few weeks ago with the books that are overdue from your accounts and I want
to thank you for your prompt efforts to find and return them. I will
continue to inform you of the books that are missing, so that as a team we
can help to preserve the Highlands School’s library collection.
Please
feel free to contact me at extension 222 if you have any questions, or if
there is any way that I can better help or serve you here in the library!
Thank
you very much!
God
bless you,
Carrie
Dodd
