From the Executive Director

We hope that you found the Parent Teacher Conferences beneficial to your child’s academic success. If you were unable to attend the Parent Teacher Conferences today please do not hesitate to schedule an appointment with your teacher(s) at any time.

Children on Campus after the School Day:  Parents, please supervise your children, especially the younger ones if you are on campus after normal school hours. We have been experiencing some problems with younger children left to play on the playground in front of the school when there are no adults present.

We would like to thank the Parents Club, Room Parents and many others for the wonderful treats for our children and faculty/staff for Valentine’s Day.

Thanks to Prudence Lidbury, parent chaperones and the Valentine’s Day Dance Committee of parents for organizing the High School dance at our gym last Saturday night. It is the first dance we have had in the new gym. The students did a great job decorating the gym.  The event was also well attended and enjoyed by students who conducted themselves like ladies and gentlemen.  Well done!

Good luck to our Boys soccer team this weekend with their playoff game this Saturday. Details are in the athletic section.

Thank you to the families that helped bake for our very successful Pre-K-Kindergarten Open House this past Tuesday:

Leticia De La Torre

Adrianna Gallagher

Michelle Jennings

Donna Terreri

Claudia Stephens

Graciela Lopez

Denise Wright

Maria Arenas

Also, a special thank you to Lori Ring and Cecelia Williams who acted as Parent Ambassadors and spoke with the prospective families throughout the morning.

Thank you to the Tichelaar’s for their generous participation in the Valentine’s Day Prom Fundraiser.

Chapel News:  THS wishes to express gratitude and appreciation to Anthea Schneider, for her donation to The Highlands School Chapel!  With Anthea’s donation, THS Altar Society was able to purchase items needed for Baptism:  a portable Baptismal font, Baptismal oil stocks, a Baptismal shell, Towels, and Baptismal Rite books.  Anthea is the Godmother of Payton, Ashton, Merrick and Maddox Johnson, baptized December 12, 2007.  May God Bless Anthea and her family for their love and generosity!

A Lenten Opportunity:  Sunday, February 17th, Vocation Action Network will host family Adoration for Vocations, from 7:00-8:00 P.M., in THS Chapel.

Fr. Frank Formolo, LC, will offer Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Cesar Herrera, will give a short testimony of his personal experiences with Fr.  Marcial Maciel, LC, Founder of the Legionaries of Christ and Regnum Christi.  All are invited!  All are needed!  “…It is not surprising that where people pray fervently, vocations flourish.” Pope Benedict XVI

From the Nurse

Dear Parents,

Bishop Farrell held a Safe Environment Training class on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, which I attended. Bishop Farrell is making Safe Environment a priority to keep our children Safe. He is implementing many changes at the Diocesan level with new personnel to oversee this program. Barbara Landregan is the new Director of Safe Environment for the Diocese of Dallas. As new things happen I will keep you up to date.

At this time, there are still a number of Volunteer Room Mothers who have not updated or taken the Safe Environment Training. It is imperative that you take this training in order to continue to work with the THS children. Please visit the School and see me to take the training.  If you have updated your training on the Internet, please bring me your certificate. The Diocese is quite emphatic that anyone who is not up to date with Safe Environment will not be allowed to work with the children. If you have any questions about this matter, please call me at 972-438-8218 ext. 212 or email me at kbrown@thehighlandsschool.org.

Thank you,

Karin Brown

School Nurse and Safety Officer
