From the Nurse’s Office
As
this year comes to a close, please think about
your child’s medical and health needs for the upcoming school year. Here
are some suggestions:
If
your child needs medication at school, please pick up the proper forms from
the Nurse’s office and have them completed by your doctor over the summer.
You
will receive notices of immunizations that will be due over the summer.
Please return the Immunization Records and Emergency Forms by August 20,
2008 (The first day of school).
If
your child is planning to participate in sports, physicals are required. Documentation
of the physical will be needed before the student is allowed to participate
in any sport. You may obtain Physical Forms can be obtained from the Nurse’s
office, the Athletic Director or Coaching staff. When completed, return the
form to the Nurse’s office.
Safe
Environment Training must be renewed annually. If your training is up to
date, please update your records online at www.cathdal.org,
click on SE to update your training
and select a course to complete. Complete the test at the end of the
course, print it and return it to me.
Complete
background checks are required every 2 years. The fee for the screening is
$15.
During
the summer, the Nurse’s Office will not be officially open. However, I will be in the office
periodically. I will be checking email frequently. My email address is kbrown@thehighlandsschool.org
or leave me a voice message at
972-438-8218 x 212.
It’s
been a pleasure working with all the children this year and I look forward
to working with you all again next year. Have a safe and great summer!

Bless,

Annual
Fund Campaign
Currently
we have pledges totaling $202,000 representing 72% participation.
You may continue to send your
pledges through May 31, 2008. Thanks to all have contributed to
the Annual Fund Campaign.
Click
and Pledge for the Annual Fund:
The
Annual Fund Campaign is vital to the success of operating The Highlands
School. All of the funds raised go directly to support the annual
operating budget. Specifically, contributions fund financial aid and
scholarships, academic programs, faculty enrichment and athletics. As
tuition does not cover the full cost of educating our students, we must
rely on the support of our families and friends to close the gap.
Our
expectation is that each family contributes at least $1,000 and we achieve
100% participation. Our community is the foundation of our existence.
Be part of it and participate.
Contribute
today and together we will attain our goal of $275,000!

As
the May SAT approaches, here are some tips that will help you to do your
best on test day.
Before Test Day
Get organized:
|

|
Make
sure you have two No. 2 pencils and a soft eraser. A No. 2 pencil is required
to answer the essay and the multiple-choice questions. Mechanical pencils
are not allowed. Pens are not allowed.
|
|

|
Have
your SAT Admission Ticket and acceptable Photo ID ready. You will need your Admission Ticket and Photo ID for admission to the test center.
|
|

|
Check
your calculator and put fresh batteries in it. You will need a scientific
or graphing calculator for the SAT Reasoning Test™ and
Subject Tests in Mathematics. Some questions on the Subject Tests in
Mathematics are best solved with a graphing calculator.
|
|

|
Locate
a watch to take with you. You can use a watch that
has no audible alarm to time yourself—separate timers are not allowed.
|
|

|
Prepare
snacks to bring with you. You may stow food and
drinks under your chair or desk and consume them outside the testing room
during breaks. A healthy snack will go a long way in keeping you alert
during the entire test.
|
Prepare
yourself like an athlete:
|

|
Get
plenty of sleep the night before the test. Your brain will work
better if you are rested.
|
|

|
Eat
a good breakfast that morning.
|
On Test Day
Leave
your cell phone at home. Don't run the risk of having your phone ring
during testing. It could cost you your scores! We strongly advise you not
to bring a cell phone or any other prohibited electronic device to the test
center. If your phone makes noise, or you are seen using it at any time
(including breaks), you may be dismissed immediately, your scores may be
canceled, and the phone may be confiscated. This policy also applies to any
other prohibited digital and/or electronic devices such as BlackBerrys,
pagers, PDAs, cameras or other photographic equipment, or separate timers
of any kind.
Getting
to the Center:
|

|
In
bad weather, check to see if your test center is open. Tune into your local media
(as you do for school closing announcements) to make sure that your test
center has not been affected. You can also visit www.collegeboard.com starting on Friday evening for a list of
test center closings.
