From the Executive Director

Each One Bring One: We would like to ask all of our families to bring a friend to our Open House on January 27 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Assembly Room. Tell your friends about our great school and bring them to the Open House.

New Lockers in the Gym: We want to thank our parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe and Julie Hollman for their generous contribution of the new lockers in the boys and girls locker rooms in the gym.  The country club style lockers are a beautiful addition to our school. Mr. Hollman’s company built the lockers for the Dallas Cowboys.

American Flag: We would also like to thank our parents Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Helen McCleneghen for their donation of the new American flag (12’ X 8’) in the gym.

Room Parents: Thank our parent Dannie Flaherty for hosting our Room Parents Meeting on Wednesday. For the Room parents there are additional dates announced in today’s edition of the “Weekly” for Middle School Field Trips.

Auction Committee Kudos: The THS faculty and staff want to thank the Auction Committee for all of their hard work. We haven’t had the auction yet, have we? Well, I wish you could see all the hard work going on behind the scenes daily at our school by these dedicated citizens of the school. Please see the separate THS Alert the Committee crafted for the event. We will keep a separate Auction tab on the THS web site to keep you updated. Please come to the gift gathering party on Saturday, January 26th at the Saliba home. Details are in this week’s edition.

In Thanksgiving:  The family of Father Justin Kielhorn, LC, wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation to our extended family at THS for your love and support of Fr. Justin on the occasion of his Ordination to the Priesthood, December 22, 2007!  The spiritual bouquet of prayers, offerings, and sacrifices presented by Angeles Ibáñez in your names are a treasured gift that has warmed our hearts and provided us all with many graces …we pray that God will reward each of you for your goodness to us…thank you all very much! …….With heartfelt appreciation, Alden, Connie,

Father Justin, Brother Christopher, Stephanie and Quinn Kielhorn

SAT Prep: Way to go THS Juniors. We have eleven (11) THS juniors enrolled in the Kaplan SAT Prep course that begins tomorrow and runs through April. For those who could not make this session we will be announcing another SAT Prep for the summer right here at The Highlands School.

Teacher Appreciation Day: Our Room Parents are putting together a program for our Teacher Appreciation Day on Wednesday, January 30th.  The point of contact is Andrea at madroulers@msn.com or call her at (214) 850-6869

Auction Shirt Policy:  If your family sells 20 raffle tickets, you may wear your “spirit wear” up to six (6) times during the school year.  We will not have a shirt made specifically for the auction this year.  “Spirit Wear” dates are Mondays only:

          January 14, 2008             January 28, 2008           February 4, 2008

          February 11, 2008           February 25, 2008            March 3, 2008

New Spirit Wear will be available in the School Store on January 9th. These shirts will be authorized for wear on the above dates provided conditions above are met. Shirts are $15.00 and 2XL are $17.00.

PARENT ALERT

Science Fair Alert.  Science Fair projects are due by Thursday, January 24, 2008. Grades 6 thru 12 will be judged and the winners will be displayed at our Open House on Sunday, January 27, 2008.  Students in grades 6 thru 8 received their instructions from Mr. Riney.  High School students received their instructions from Dr. Trulson and Mr. Doyle (Physics).  AP students are encouraged to focus on AP exams, but may opt in or out for a Science Fair project.  Grades 3 thru 5 will do a class project.  Teachers have explained the projects’ rules and guidelines to the students. Please note that the due date is a change (one day earlier) from our last notice.

Surveys

We would like to thank all those parents who have mailed back the Diocesan survey that you received at the end of December.  We would also like to urge those of you who have not done so, to mail them back to us as soon as possible.  This survey helps to determine whether or not The Highlands is eligible for Title I-V Entitlements.

Congratulations to Junior, Maria Albert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jorge and Hilda Albert for winning a $500.00 scholarship toward her senior year. Maria entered an essay competition with the Catholic Foundation.

Click and Pledge for the Annual Fund:

The Annual Fund Campaign is vital to the success of operating The Highlands School.  All of the funds raised go directly to support the annual operating budget.  Specifically, contributions fund financial aid and scholarships, academic programs, faculty enrichment and athletics.  As tuition does not cover the full cost of educating our students, we must rely on the support of our families and friends to close the gap.  Our expectation is that each family contributes at least $1,000 and we achieve 100% participation. Our community is the foundation of our existence.  Be part of it and participate.

Contribute today and together we will attain our goal of $275,000!

Just click below and you can complete your contribution: http://www.thehighlandsschool.org/ths/forms/fundraising/annualfunddrive.asp
