From the Executive Director

To the parents, students, faculty and supporters of THS, let me take this opportunity to say to you well done with our Science Fair.  Our Science Department, under the leadership of Dr. Michael Trulson and assisted by his team of Mr. Riney and Mr. Doyle, presented a most thoroughly produced Science Fair participated in by our Middle and High School Science and Physics students.  It was apparent many of our students could have been “first place” finishers with the detailed effort and scientific methodology used in each of their experiments.  A special “thank you” to the parents for all your support in allowing our students to actually experience hands on scientific research and its performance possibilities.

Each One Bring One: We would like to ask all of our families to bring a friend to our Open House on January 27 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Assembly Room. Tell your friends about our great school and bring them to the Open House.

SAT Prep: Way to go THS Juniors: We have fourteen (14) THS juniors enrolled in the Kaplan SAT Prep course that runs through April. For those who could not make this session we will be announcing SAT Prep for fall 2008 right here at The Highlands School.

Teacher Appreciation Day: Our Room Parents are putting together a program for our Teacher Appreciation Day on Wednesday, January 30th.  The point of contact is Andrea at madroulers@msn.com or call her at (214) 850-6869

Auction Shirt Policy:  If your family sells 20 raffle tickets, you may wear your “spirit wear” up to six (6) times during the school year.  We will not have a shirt made specifically for the auction this year.  “Spirit Wear” dates are Mondays only:

January 28, 2008             February 4, 2008     February 11, 2008

Spelling Bee: Congratulations to Raisch Tomlanovich and Mackenzie Camisa, winners of the Boys’ and Girls’ Scripps Spelling Competition. Raisch ably represented THS in the annual Diocesan Spelling Bee held at St. Patrick’s School on January 23.  Mackenzie attended as our school alternate.  Thanks to all twenty-five students who entered our local competition.  We encourage you all to sign up again next year.

Vocation Chalice: Mrs. Lamers 2nd Grade Class will have the Vocation Chalice in their classroom all week.  This is a project sponsored by St. Luke’s Catholic Church in which families or organizations can take the chalice to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

Click and Pledge for the Annual Fund:

The Annual Fund Campaign is vital to the success of operating The Highlands School.  All of the funds raised go directly to support the annual operating budget.  Specifically, contributions fund financial aid and scholarships, academic programs, faculty enrichment and athletics.  As tuition does not cover the full cost of educating our students, we must rely on the support of our families and friends to close the gap.  Our expectation is that each family contributes at least $1,000 and we achieve 100% participation. Our community is the foundation of our existence.  Be part of it and participate.

Contribute today and together we will attain our goal of $275,000!

Just click below and you can complete your contribution: http://www.thehighlandsschool.org/ths/forms/fundraising/annualfunddrive.asp
